Christmas Gift Ideas for Babies: 0-12 Months

It isn’t that easy to come up with a Christmas gift list —
especially if we are talking about babies. In the first place,
they cannot list their wishes down yet. Since most of my friends are still single and don’t have babies yet, they are near to clueless of what to give baby relatives and to other babies close to their hearts (my kid included, of course!). There are a lot of baby stuff that you’ll see in department stores, but which ones make the best gifts?

To cater to this puzzlement, I thought of listing down some gift ideas for babies. The list is broken down to certain age brackets: 0-6 months and 6-12 months.

I hope these lists aren’t too late for this year’s Christmas Day, but even if it is, you can always refer to the list next year (or the next, next, next).

CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS FOR BABIES 0-6 MONTHS

This coming Christmas is essentially the 0-6 month-old baby’s first Christmas. Wouldn’t it be thrilling to be part of his or her first Christmas celeb? Check out these valuable gift ideas that are both functional and fun!

1. CRIB TOYS. Once babies are alert enough to observe and take in their environment and surroundings, it would be best to give them something that will help their brains and attention get stimulated. Efficient crib toys will keep them occupied during their waking hours. Fisher-Price offers a wide range of crib toys that are actually reasonably priced.

2. PLAY GYM.Babies grow and learn at an amazingly speedy rate and a baby play gym can provide the stimulation adequate for the crucial early stages of the baby’s development. Disney’s Baby Einstein have several play gyms that babies can definitely enjoy and learn from.

3. GROOMING KIT. Babies grow — and so does their need to look good and stay clean all the time. Safety 1st has the Deluxe Healthcare and Grooming Kit that includes basic grooming and healthcare necesseties.

4. TEETHER (Tag-along blanket). It is said that teething can start as early as 3 months. Meanwhile, the majority cut their first tooth between 4 and 7 months. You can share with this milestone by giving a teether such as The First Years’ Buzzing Bee Massaging Teether as well as a tag-along blanket such as these ones from Tiny Tots.

5. CHRISTMAS APPAREL. This doesn’t necessarily mean getting the baby a Santa costume but if you can get clothing items that are Christmas-themed, the better. But you should always remember to get items that are appropriate for the Christmas weather. A nice holiday print one-piece and/or a matching hat or bonnet such as these from GAP will definitely be useful.

CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS FOR BABIES 6-12 MONTHS

Babies under the age bracket of 6-12 months have slightly different needs from those in the younger bracket. Below are some gift ideas for babies 6-12 months.

1. NURSERY BOOKS. Babies love to explore and since nursery books have several pages with colorful imagery, they will not get bored easily as they leaf through the pages. You can choose from a number of hardbound nursery books with hard pages that can help stimulate baby’s brains. You may also get more interactive ones such as VTech‘s Pooh’s Adventure Book.

2. FEEDING SET. By the age of 6 months, pediatricians already advice parents to begin solid feeding their babies. Although parents may have already bought feeding utensils for their babies, you can always add to their collection of baby feeding ware. Philips Avent has been one of the most popular and widely patronized brand of baby feeding items in the world. Their Toddler Mealtime Set is a complete BPA-free feeding set suitable for babies 6 months and older.

3. BATH TOYS. Babies this age enjoy their bath time a lot and the experience can be enhanced through the presence of bath toys. This Fill ‘Em Up Frog Bath Toy from Lamaze Toys should give you an idea.

4. CRIB SHOES (Non-Skid Baby Shoes). Feet care is essential for babies. Babies start to practice standing and walking on their own between their 8th and 12th month (up to 1.5 years). They should have comfortable shoes to help them walk faster and safer. My personal choice is these non-skid sock shoes from Skidders (my son has two pairs).

5. WALKING ASSISTANT (Walking Wings). As mentioned, babies start learning to walk before they reach 12 months of age. Parents most likely have bought a walker for their babies already and some of they may not be aware of the existence of walking assistants or walking wings. My son has a Mothercare Walking Assistant such as this one.

So, there. I know how late this post is for this year’s Christmas but you can always refer to this next year. After all, new babies always come every year! 🙂
